The Hawaii County Department of Public Works announces a traffic shift to the mauka lane on Mamalahoa Highway beginning at Farm and Garden Repair and extending past L&L Drive-Inn near the highway’s intersection with Napoopoo Road in Captain Cook.

The lane shift begins Nov. 4 and will remain in effect for approximately six months, ending in May 2016, officials said.

The purpose of the traffic shift is to allow Isemoto Contracting Co. to excavate and construct a 475-foot retaining wall along the makai side of the highway, weather and construction conditions permitting. The shift is necessary to complete the installation in a timely manner and for the safety of the traveling public, according to DPW.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution as heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone.
